Unfortunately over 200 children drown in swimming pools each year the American Red Cross suggest pool owners make pool safety a top priority. There are several easy steps you can you can take.
- Pools should be secured with appropriate barriers. Surround your pool with at least a 4 foot fence. Place a safety cover on the pool or hot tub when not in use and consider putting in a pool alarm.
- Always supervise children never allow anyone to swim alone. Have young or inexperienced swimmers wear a U. S. Coast Guard approved life jacket.
- Ensure everyone in the home knows how to swim, there are many age appropriate swimming classes offered in most communities.
- Ensure all members of the home understand how to respond to an emergency and learn CPR.
